COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS & ILLEGAL PRODUCTS

Counterfeit Products

  • Intend to mimic original products, hence they are copies of legitimate branded products
  • Usually show high-quality labeling and packaging, reproducing the outer appearance of the originals
  • The content ranges from very good copies of the original active ingredient and the respective products to a mix of colorants and formulants with other inert materials

Illegal Products

  • Do not mimic original products
  • They often contain one or a mix of various active ingredients of unknown quality together with unknown inert ingredients
  • In extreme cases they are just composed of inert materials such as colorants and water

POTENTIAL DAMAGE AND RISKS OF COUNTERFEIT & ILLEGAL CROP PROTECTION PRODUCTS

  • Counterfeit and illegal products often contain high levels of unauthorized active ingredients and inerts
  • Due to the unknown composition, biological efficacy is unpredictable and can result in no efficacy at all or in a complete damage of the treated crop
  • The use of products containing non-registered or banned active ingredients can lead to unacceptable residues
  • Counterfeit and illegal products can contribute to resistance development
  • They damage the business and the reputation of both, farmers and the legitimate crop protection industry

Counterfeit and illegal products compromise sustainable agriculture

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT COUNTERFEIT & ILLEGAL PRODUCTS

  1. Buy crop protection products / seeds only from a known and trustworthy dealer and never buy from the “black market”(e.g. directly from a truck or from any other non-authorized dealer)
  2. Check that the bottle / packaging is originally sealed at the time of purchase. Safety features must be entire and the CapSeal unbroken. Check specific packaging characteristics (e.g. Bayer cross embossing on the bottle neck)
  3. Ask for a correct and complete invoice, including the name of the product(s) and/or varieties purchased
  4. Be suspicious if products or varieties are offered at an unusually low price or with foreign labels
  5. Scan the CapSeal with the Bayer CapSeal App (if any)
